Are you good to people you don’t know? How, when and why (or why not)?
One detail of the story of the good Samaritan many don’t know is that Samaritans were unpopular among the followers of Jesus, and a story of an unpopular tribe doing something good for a stranger would have been shocking at the time.
My personal brand of human interaction is a bit odd. I do always try to be kind to strangers, you never know who you might be dealing with, right? And I think that overall I am more aware of others, in a basic sense – than many of my friends and family. I am particularly agile in most shops, and it peeves me to no end when others blunder around with no regard to where anyone else might be.
But then, amongst my acquaintances, I can seem to miss the obvious on a regular basis. So when it comes to doing something really thoughtful and kind, that’s probably not me. Not that I wouldn’t like to be more helpful, I’m just really shy…
